{"id":2006,"date":"2026-04-07T15:16:36","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T15:16:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thacademyofdance.com\/?page_id=2006"},"modified":"2026-04-07T15:16:37","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T15:16:37","slug":"spring-concert-information","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/thacademyofdance.com\/index.php\/spring-concert-information\/","title":{"rendered":"Spring Concert Information"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This is the time when I want to celebrate all you have learned and all we have accomplished together this year!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, I present you with a booklet full of \u201cmusts\u201d and \u201cdon\u2019ts\u201d!&nbsp; The reality is, however, that the details do matter\u2014they make the difference between a show looking polished and running smoothly or being sloppy and disorganized.&nbsp; Hence, this booklet full of \u201crules\u201d designed to address those all-important details.&nbsp; I ask you to read it thoroughly and carefully and follow the instructions to the letter.&nbsp; It really will make it easier for everyone!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oh, and by the way . . . I <em>do<\/em> celebrate all of you!&nbsp; I\u2019m proud of what we have achieved together.&nbsp; Thanks to all of you\u2014dancers and parents\u2014this year\u2019s Spring Concert promises to be a terrific and entertaining show!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Happy Dancing!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Schedul<\/strong><strong>e<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>Dress Rehearsal<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thurs., May 28th 3:45-9:00 p.m.&nbsp; (At Tilson Auditorium at ISU; 200 North 7th Street&nbsp; {behind Tirey Hall}<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is your specific time to rehearse.&nbsp; This is the start time to be on the stage, so arrive early to change into your first costume.&nbsp; One parent may accompany their student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3:45-4:15p.m.\u2014Beginning Dance and Pre-Technique&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 4:15-5:00p.m.\u2014All students Grande Finale and notes&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 5:00-9:00p.m.\u2014Students 1st grade and up. (Beginning Dance and Pre-Tech students are welcome to stay and watch!)&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Performance<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Fri., May 29th \u2014 Arrive 5:00 p.m. (Perform 6:00p.m.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sat., May 30th \u2014 Arrive 4:00p.m. &nbsp;(Perform 5:00p.m.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Costume<\/strong><strong>s<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Any alterations or adjustments to costumes must be completed prior to the dress rehearsal.\u00a0\u00a0 Costumes must be wrinkle-free, on hangers (preferably in garment bags), and carried to the theater for both dress rehearsal and performance.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Please make sure the dancer\u2019s name is on all pieces of all costumes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dancers must arrive at the theater wearing street clothes; under no circumstances is anyone allowed to wear costumes to the theater.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No underwear is worn with costumes.\u00a0 <em>Yes, you read that right. You\u2019ll get used to it.\u00a0 Really.<\/em><em>\u00a0 (Older dancers with many changes may wear a nude camisole leotard with clear straps)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Absolutely no jewelry and no nail polish may be worn.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Please bring an extra pair of tights in case of an accidental run in the pair provided with your costume <em>(and try really hard not to need the extras!).\u00a0 <\/em><em>Extra tights will be available for purchase at the manager\u2019s table.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Dressing Room Manager will have an emergency kit available for tears, holes, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tip:<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><em>&nbsp;If you have to change tights during the show, try this instead\u2014wear your tights in layers.&nbsp; For instance, you need pink for ballet and tan for jazz.&nbsp; Put on the tan first and pink over them.&nbsp; After ballet just peel off the pink and you\u2019re ready to go!&nbsp; It\u2019s so much easier than trying to put tights on a sweaty body!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Shoe<\/strong><strong>s<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All shoes must be clean and\/or polished and have clean ribbons (if applicable).\u00a0 <em>Soft-Scrub works well on white or pink leather; canvas ballet slippers can be washed in the washer.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ballet shoes must be <strong>pink<\/strong>. Tap and jazz shoes must be <strong>black.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Beg. Dance, Pre-Technique and Modern dancers should have slip-on shoes or sandals to wear from the dressing area to the stage door <em>(the route takes them outside through a parking area).<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure the dancer\u2019s name is inside all shoes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hai<\/strong><strong>r<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Each class will be given instructions about how hair is to be worn.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hair should be done at home prior to both the dress rehearsal and performance.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assigned headpieces only. No decorative barrettes or clips are to be worn.\u00a0 Use hair pins or barrettes that match your hair.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There will be kits in the ballroom and dressing areas with hair spray, extra hair pins, etc., for touch-ups.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Makeu<\/strong><strong>p<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All girls are to wear blush, eye shadow, and RED lipstick.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Older girls may wear foundation, mascara, and eyeliner.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Because stage lights wash out facial features, all makeup should be applied a little heavier than street makeup.\u00a0 However, too much makeup can look gaudy and hide the natural beauty of the dancers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Makeup, except lipstick, should be applied at home before the dress rehearsal and performance.\u00a0 Lipstick should be applied after costumes are on.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Please wear makeup at dress rehearsal EXACTLY as you intend to wear it for the show.\u00a0 Appropriateness of makeup will be checked at the dress rehearsal and any necessary changes made at that time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There will be makeup kits in the ballroom and dressing areas for emergencies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>BOYS:<\/strong>\u00a0 See Patti for special instructions.<strong> <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dress Rehearsal<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fact #1:<\/strong>&nbsp; <em>For the show to be terrific, taking time for a thorough dress rehearsal is crucial.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fact #2:<\/strong>&nbsp; <em>Dress rehearsals are very long and very tedious.&nbsp; When you\u2019re ready to tear your hair out from boredom and frustration, please refer to Fact #1.&nbsp; My apologies in advance . . . and my thanks for your patience!<\/em><em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rehearsal will begin <strong>promptly<\/strong> to avoid going into overtime.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Only one adult per dancer may attend the dress rehearsal.\u00a0 Siblings and extra family members are a distraction\u2014everyone\u2019s full attention will speed up the rehearsal process<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stage Moms will be in the auditorium and will guide the class backstage during rehearsal.\u00a0 Parents are responsible for their children at all other times.\u00a0 Find your Stage Mom when you arrive and sit as a group.\u00a0 If you are in two or more dances, find the Stage Mom for your first dance on the program.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dressing Room assignments will be made at this time.\u00a0 Parents that are accompanying the students may remain in the auditorium to watch rehearsal. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Please bring snacks and drinks with you\u2014and avoid anything that can stain costumes!\u00a0 <strong><em>Food and drinks are not allowed in the auditorium, but you may eat in the lobby.<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0 Please clean up after!<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>3:45p.m.\u2014Beginning Dance and Pre-Technique <\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>4:15p.m.\u2014<\/strong>Grand Finale Practice for <strong>All<\/strong> students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>5:00-9:00p.m<\/strong>.\u2013 Rehearsal for students in <strong>1st grade and up<\/strong>.\u00a0 We will run the show in order.\u00a0 Beginning Dance and Pre-Technique students may leave at this time, however you are welcome to stay and watch the show!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>P<\/strong><strong>erformanc<\/strong><strong>e<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>One Hour Before Showtime<\/strong>\u2014Dancers are to arrive at their assigned dressing area <strong>wearing street clothes<\/strong><strong> and full stage makeup<\/strong> (they may arrive earlier if necessary).\u00a0 Do not wear costumes to the theater! <em>\u00a0For the audience, anticipation about what\u2019s to come is part of the magic of the theater.\u00a0 One simple way to maintain the magic is to carry costumes in garment bags so they are invisible to audience members you may pass on the way in.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parents please provide dry snacks and clear drinks for your student each evening. Stage moms are not required to provide<strong> snacks.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Parents are to sign there child in with their designated stage mom ,help them settle, and then leave. <\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>ONLY VOLUNTEERS will remain with the dancers. This rule will be strictly enforced. <\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>After the show one Female family member must sign your dancer out with the stage mom before leaving.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once dancers are in their designated dressing area and in costume, <strong>they are to remain there<\/strong>.\u00a0 No dancer is allowed in the lobby once seating has begun.\u00a0 Runners will be available if you need to get a message to someone.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fifteen Minutes Before Showtime<\/strong>\u2014 PE C, Mrs. Banks, Cook, Helen, Jane,, Michael, Katie Nana, Mr. Banks to stage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Video Taping and Photograph<\/strong><strong>y<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A professional video will be taped during both performance and will be available for purchase.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parents:\u00a0 If you also wish to video tape, it is preferable that you do so at dress rehearsal.\u00a0 People will be milling about the auditorium anyway, so blocking the view of others is not such an issue.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Flash photography is strictly prohibited during the performance<\/strong> for the safety of the dancers.\u00a0 Flashes can be blinding and quite distracting.\u00a0 If you video tape during the performance, please be discreet.\u00a0 People running up and down aisles is disruptive for the dancers as well as the audience.\u00a0 Please let courtesy be the key!\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A Few Theater Tradition<\/strong><strong>s<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Performers often are given flowers following a performance.\u00a0 Parents:\u00a0 While flowers can\u2019t be presented to the dancers on stage, it might be nice to receive them in the lobby afterwards.\u00a0 Hint.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Entering, leaving, or moving around the auditorium for any reason is acceptable only between dances, never during.\u00a0 It\u2019s a matter of courtesy to the performers as well as others in the audience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unlike sporting events, at theater performances dashing for the exit before the final applause is totally uncool.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;The traditional good luck wish for actors is \u201cbreak a leg\u201d; for dancers it is \u201cmerde\u201d (rhymes with \u201ccared\u201d), a French word meaning . . . well, never mind the literal translation.&nbsp; It\u2019s used to exclaim something like \u201coh, geez!\u201d&nbsp; <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Student Pick-Up <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Parents: <\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0For the abundance of safety one <strong>female<\/strong> family member may meet the student in the dressing area and sign out with the stage mom. * \u00a0Other family members please wait in the lobby for your child(ren).\u00a0 For the safety and privacy of the dancers, <strong>NO ONE ELSE will be allowed in the dressing areas for any reason<\/strong>.\u00a0 <strong>This rule will be strictly enforced. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>*If you would like to be near your child during the performance, please consider volunteering to help backstage. \ud83d\ude09<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is the time when I want to celebrate all you have learned and all we have accomplished together this year!\u00a0 Instead, I present you with a booklet full of \u201cmusts\u201d and \u201cdon\u2019ts\u201d!&nbsp;
