Terre Haute Academy of Dance

Started by Patti Plascak Willey in April of 2000, the Terre Haute Academy of Dance is devoted to allowing dancers of all ages to discover the joy of dance.

“I am so thankful for my time studying at the Academy of Dance! This studio shaped my trajectory in life and led me to a career in dance. Not only did I receive incredible technical training, but the studio became a home away from home that fostered a joy and passion for dance and wonderful friendships. I am forever grateful for the instruction I received here, and the leadership of Patti Willey, who opened my eyes to the possibilities available in dance.” — Joanna Meccia, Dance Artist/Choreographer/Director, Chicago

“The values that were created during my time at the Academy of Dance are used to drive my decision-making today. Patti not only taught me how dance can shape an individual, but its role in cultural placemaking and how dance can be the roots of a community. This knowledge is utilized daily as I work to instill that same sense of community and appreciation for dance that was gifted to me 20 years ago.” — Victoria Antonini, Programs Administrator, Broadway Dance Center, NYC

“Growing up I loved dancing at THAD. It gave me the opportunity to learn dance styles that I could not have learned anywhere else. I always looked forward to the spring concert as it was not just your normal recital but a production. The shows are always amazing! I have taken so many things that I have learned at Academy over the years and use it in my coaching. And I would not be where I am today without THAD. Once I had my daughter Mia, I could not wait for her to take classes. I knew she would enjoy dancing as much as I did, and I look forward to watching her grow and learn all the different style that I did.” — Kelsey Martin, Head Dance Coach, Honey Creek Middle School

“Joy is the engine behind everything at the Terre Haute Academy of Dance. Building upon a foundation of classical modern dance and ballet technique (and more!), THAD allows students to express their joy with confidence. The spring concerts, under the excellent direction of Patti Plascak Willey, are grand feats of storytelling in motion where each student plays an important role. THAD set me up for success on my pathway to pursue performing arts professionally. Even now, living and making art in NYC, I return to the exercises, ideals, and skills I learned at the Terre Haute Academy of Dance.” — Cameron Barnett, Dance-Theater Artist, Brooklyn NY
